Video Project
Project Description
For this project, we were given the task to make a video that was at least three minutes, and not exceeding fifteen. There was no limit about what we could make the video about or what it could be on, as long as it was appropriate. At first I was really struggling with what to even make my video about, but after having a few discussions with my teacher and watching a few videos she recommended, I decided to make my video on what makes people happy and what happiness means to them. I used the rubric to see what requirements I needed to meet in my video, which helped me continue to make progress and choose which aspects to include in the video, such as interviews and different lightings to incorporate.

Project Reflection Section
1. How is art used in everyday life?
Art can be seen through basically everything. Whether it is on the street or in a school, you can perceive art out of anything. Some people show their art through their writing and others express their art through drawing or painting.
2. How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
Art gets a point across to an audience whether it is through street art, traditional painting or in other forms. The artist typically uses their art to get a message across and communicate with their audience. Artists use their pieces to express their opinion and show the public how they feel or what their believe.
3. How does Material Culture influence artistic decisions?
Artist often use what is happening around them to show the audience either what they want to see or what they believe on a subject that is happening at the time, like a current event. When something happens in material culture, artists often use this as an opportunity to influence the people what they believe.
4. What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art?
Their are very many problem solving skills that are used in the making of works of art. You must have curiosity and imagination to initially come up with what the artist would like to create. Creating art also involves initiative in order to take charge of you work and come up with something that you will be happy with and proud of.
5. Why do Artists Produce Preliminary Plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
I think that it is very important for artists to make preliminary plans so that one can go into the making of a video with plans and an outline of what someone would like to do. This way the artist will have a plan of the direction they would like to go, rather than going in blindly.

Political Cartoon Project
Project Description
We began this project by watching the documentary Blackfish. During the movie we jotted down ideas for something that we could use for a political cartoon, or even just notes on the movie and what we saw. We then did a few sketches of some of the ideas that we could use on our final product. After the quick sketches that we did, we then completed a critique with two partners, who gave us ideas on how to improve or refine our drawings further. We then got the choice to either do our drawing online or by hand. I personally chose to do my drawing by hand and then after I finished, scan it in and use illustrator and photoshop to enhance it and color it in. The message that really stuck out to me the most was the fact that the whales are being kept in such small, ‘jail-like’ cells. I used sarcasm to really push my point even further by using a quote bubble coming from the whale which says ‘Don’t worry, I’m comfy!’. This proves the point that I am trying to convey by sort of mocking what the workers usually say, which is that the whales live in nice, spacious areas, living a healthy lifestyle. I used this to emphasize the point I was trying to get across. Information can be portrayed through art in an example such as a political cartoon. A message can be shown by using techniques including sarcasm and mockery to point out something important. The difference between creating and viewing art can sometimes be something as simple as knowing a deeper meaning when making it rather than looking at it.

Pre-Historic Art History Drawings
Project Description
We started this project by studying the prehistoric art periods. We learned that before art was even established, people in the past would use recognition to show what they saw at first, and then using representation of what they saw to make something that meant something to them and their point of view on what they saw. Throughout the first part of this project and the studying of the way they prehistoric people lived, we learned how they lived, what they hunted and gathered, and how they showed this in their art, specifically their cave drawings. I learned that in this time period some common drawings were wolves, deer, and mammoths or elephants. This ultimately led to me drawing a mammoth. This was the first time that I was experimenting with charcoal pencils. This was a new experiment and I was pleased with the way that my drawing turned out. I think that the image trace affect my drawing in a positive way in some of the cases. It did change the way it looked, not allowing it to see some of the details in some, but overall I thought it turned out well. It really enhanced the picture and made it look more technology-like. I think that this will strengthen my art in the future, and I will continue using this feature in the future.
